Then today’s recipe is right up your alley! This gourmet brigadeiro is easy to make and has a fruity, nutty, and complex, deep chocolate flavor enhanced by the coffee. Cathy’s Inspiration
The idea for this incredible recipe came from Cathy from Indiana. She sent me a lovely email and suggested adding espresso to the traditional brigadeiro recipe. Why haven’t I thought of that before? I’m a helpless coffee and chocolate lover, so needless to say that this brigadeiro is already my favorite of all, right? This coffee brigadeiro recipe is so easy and delicious! I’m so thankful she suggested this twist because I drink a lot of coffee every day as a Brazilian born and bred. We have a strong coffee culture in the country. After all, Brazilian coffee is the most consumed worldwide.
Storage Tips
You can keep it for up to 4-5 days in an airtight container at room temperature. They last longer than that, but the truffles become a little dry as the days go by. Because this recipe calls for chocolate, the brigadeiro balls become too hard when kept in the fridge.
Other Brigadeiro Variations
- Beijinho (Little kiss) – Beijinho is a tropical coconut brigadeiro.
- Strawberry brigadeiro – Children’s all-time favorite made with milk powder.
- Pumpkin brigadeiro and vanilla brigadeiro – These are fall-friendly versions of this sweet.
- White chocolate brigadeiro – Mouthwatering white chocolate fudge with a tad of alcohol and vanilla.
Tips for Making a Delicious Coffee Brigadeiro
For this recipe, I use instant espresso powder to accent and enrich the chocolate flavor; however, you can use your preferred coffee type. On a side note, I LOVE this Brazilian instant coffee. I dredged my brigadeiros in cocoa powder because I like the sweet and bitter flavors together. However, it is a bit messy to eat it because the powder sticks to everything. Feel free to use something else to dredge, such as minced nuts, chocolate sprinkles, granulated sugar, etc. To achieve a uniform look, weigh each brigadeiro ball before rolling them. I used about 15 grams for each truffle.
Instructions for Making Coffee Brigadeiro
- Grease a plate with butter and set aside.
- In a medium non-stick pan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, table cream, cocoa powder, and salt over medium-low heat.
- Once the brigadeiro mix is warm, add the chocolate chips and espresso powder.
- The mixture thickens after about 15 minutes, and once you can run your spoon through the middle of it without it running back together for 2-3 seconds, it is done.
- Pour the mixture into the greased plate, and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
- In the meantime, place the candy cups on a serving plate and the dredging of your choice in a bowl.
- Once the 1 hour is over, slightly wet your hands, put a tablespoon of the chewy mixture on your hands, and roll into a small ball.
- Cover with the dredging, and transfer to the candy cups.
- Serve with a cup of freshly brewed coffee! Yum, enjoy it!
